NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Former Rutgers University Head Coach Greg Schiano called it a "symbolic gesture" but to Eric LeGrand, it’s a dream come true. On May 2, the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted LeGrand, the Rutgers football player who became paralyzed after being tackled in an October 2010 game, to “recognize his character, spirit, and perseverance.”

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The NFL, one of the largest U.S. sports leagues, received a makeover recently with their newly designed uniforms for the upcoming season. Nike, who was given the account, not only gave an aesthetic new look to the league, but also improved upon the fabric as well.
According to Nike’s global creative director for football, additions to the uniform include new stretch-woven fabric and well as an aluminum belt buckle for the convenience of players. Moreover, because of Nike’s reputation as a leader of revolutionary ideas, all 32 jerseys have rolled out completely new graphical improvements.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Baseball is back. Sure, in a season that has 162 games, what happens in late April is really no indication of how the season will end up. But it’s fun to speculate anyway, especially if you are a New York Mets fan (which I am not). With a busy off-season that had more big name moves than any year in recent history, the National League has been stirred up, leaving many division races wide open for the taking.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- The 2012 MLB season officially began last week and teams from both the National and American leagues are shaping up to be competitive and swinging for the fences.
The top pick for the Central Division of the American League is the Detroit Tigers. Their pre-season did not get off to a very good start with designated hitter/catcher Victor Martinez tearing his left ACL during a workout on January 16, which puts him out for the whole rest of the season. This is a minor infraction, however, because the Tigers’ club went ahead and signed first baseman Prince Fielder to a $214 million contract.
Detroit is now a top contender and may extend its 15-game gap from last year between itself and the rest of the division. Even without Fielder as part of the line-up, the Tigers were not only predicted to have a winning chance this year, but stood to make back-to-back trips to the playoffs for the first time since 1934 and 1935.

In 1998, Peyton Manning was the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Although this was an early high point in Manning’s career, it was not the start of his success as a football player. Manning comes from a family of football players. The Encyclopedia of World Biography says that his father, Archie, played for the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Manning has two brothers, who also followed in the footsteps of their father. Eli, who plays currently plays for the New York Giants and Cooper, who played part of his freshman year at the University of Mississippi.
